A pool that is yours alone, facing the sea
An ipê-wood deck under a big tree, loungers turned toward the ocean and the islands. No condo rules, no opening hours: the water is yours from sunrise to the last drink of the night.

Vila Oriba · Rio de Janeiro · South Zone
An architect's house to rent for nine, in Rio's South Zone, five minutes from Leblon.
Mornings facing the Cagarras islands; evenings in your lit pool.
An architect-designed house open to the ocean, a pool that is yours alone. Three minutes of video, from the front door to the pool, through the living room and the inner patio.
It's exactly what you'll find when you arrive.
See the houseOriba means 'joy' in Old Tupi, the language of Rio's first inhabitants — like Ipanema, Guanabara or Tijuca, the house's name comes from the language that named the city. In the morning you have your coffee facing the islands; in the afternoon you come back up from the beach for the pool; in the evening the toucans fly over the garden.
Vila Oriba is a detached house with its own garden: nobody above you, no building doorman turning your friends away, no condominium rules, and no owners' meeting that can ban the rental three weeks before your stay — which, in Rio, is now happening to apartments and penthouses in Ipanema and Leblon.
Your guests are welcome: day visitors, for the pool or lunch, if you let us know 24 hours ahead with a copy of their ID, up to ten people in the house in total (nine beds, ten at the table). No parties and no extra overnight guests: the house is rented for a maximum of nine people.
A tropical garden visited by toucans, marmosets, hummingbirds and many other birds — and, in winter, from July to September, the humpback whales passing offshore —, a pool heated to 28 °C all year, a caretaker couple on site and weekday housekeeping included — none of which a penthouse has. And what we don't have: you are not within walking distance of Ipanema. Leblon is five minutes by taxi, Vidigal beach a seven-minute walk.
Why Vila Oriba

An ipê-wood deck under a big tree, loungers turned toward the ocean and the islands. No condo rules, no opening hours: the water is yours from sunrise to the last drink of the night.

Four suites, each with its own bathroom. A 100 m² living room whose glass walls slide open onto the garden and the pool. An architect's house, not an apartment.

Vidigal beach, sheltered and uncrowded, is a 7-minute walk away. Leblon and its restaurants are 5 minutes by taxi, Ipanema 10. And at night, back to the calm of a neighbourhood that lives like a village.

Location
The house is at the entrance of Vidigal, at the bottom of the hill, on the road to Leblon: one of the few houses in Vidigal with a real garden and a pool. Vidigal is the artists' neighbourhood of the South Zone: a theatre that trained the actors of City of God, the school of artist Vik Muniz, hilltop bars where Rio comes to watch the sunset, and the Dois Irmãos trail. In the morning, Vidigal beach, shared with the Sheraton; in the evening, the restaurants of Leblon.
Good to know
Yes. Vidigal is a village-like neighbourhood with a single, watched entrance, whose residents work in the hotels and restaurants of Leblon; Cariocas call it "Rio's safe". The house is at the bottom of the hill, on the road to Leblon, with a caretaker couple living on site. Our guests say it better than we do: "we felt safe and comfortable throughout our stay" (Ramon, New York), "beautiful, clean and very safe" (Brandon).
Yes. A heat pump keeps the water at 28 °C (82 °F) or warmer all year round, so you can swim through Rio's winter and spring too, from June to November. The 8 × 2.5 m pool is private and faces the ocean and the Cagarras islands.
From the sun. The house is being fitted with rooftop solar panels sized to produce, over a year, as much electricity as the whole house uses, the pool heat pump included. The heat pump runs mainly during the day, while the panels are producing.
From the airport, 40 minutes with the house's private driver, who meets you with a sign. In town, Uber and 99 drop you at Vidigal square, a 7-minute walk away; the neighbourhood taxis, reachable on a WhatsApp group, drive up to the door. Leblon is 5 minutes away, Ipanema 10.
Yes. It's the same house, with the same dates and the same reviews, at least 8% cheaper. Payment goes through the secure page of Hostex, our booking software, and cancellations are fully refunded up to 60 days before arrival. You can write to us on WhatsApp before booking.
Up to nine guests, in four air-conditioned suites with private bathrooms (the patio studio is split-level: double bed upstairs, single bed downstairs), plus two infants on request. Every bedroom has its own door: ideal for two families or four couples. The house is laid out over several levels connected by stairs.
Yes, these are the most requested dates of the year: high-season rates, a longer minimum stay, and bookings that come in three to four months ahead. On December 31, Vidigal beach has its own fireworks, put on by the Sheraton.
Yes. Fibre and Wi-Fi up to 250 Mb/s in the living room, enough for several video calls at once. The sea-view suite and the studio each have a desk.
